About Us:
SINY Mission Statement SINY's mission is to enhance the lives of Staten Islanders by supporting the Island's cultural institutions and other attractions which add richness to the experience of living and visiting here, and doing business here. We seek to educate Staten Island residents, especially young people, and those who do not live here about the storied history, cultural and diversity of our borough. Our activities in support of tourism also nurture economic development. SINY lessens the burdens of government by engaging in activities that will increase economic activity, tourism and support of educational, cultural, historical and other charitable institutions in Staten Island, New York.

Lawrence "Larry" Ambrosino Executive Director, SINY Lawrence "Larry" Ambrosino, the executive director of SINY, comes to his position following a stellar career in public education that spanned five decades. A native Islander, whose family roots date back to before 1900 on Staten Island, Larry began his career in education in 1967. In 1980, at the age of 32, he was named as the principal of Public School 57 in Clifton, thus becoming the youngest principal in New York City at that time. In 1998, he was named as Superintendent of Schools for Shrewsbury, New Jersey, a post which he held for ten years. While serving in these various capacities, his commitment to the community of Staten Island became apparent. He served on the boards of the Red Cross and Community Television, was president of the Staten Island Council of Boy Scouts, was a founder and chairman of the Staten Island Sports Hall of Fame, and is the founder and chairman of the Patrolman Rocco Laurie Scholarship Committee, which he established in 1972. In addition, he has been an Explorer Post advisor, city-wide basketball coach, CYO coach, and has been a member of the Staten Island CYO executive board. In 1995, he was awarded the Patrick Daly Award by Guy Molinari, the Borough President of Staten Island. He also is a "Paul Harris Fellow" which is presented by Rotary International for "service above self", has received the Good Scout and Silver Beaver awards from the Boy Scouts of America, received the Richard Silberstein Award from the Staten Island Mental society, and was given a lifetime achievement award from the Catholic Youth Organization. He received a Bachelors degree from Wagner College and his masters from Kean University. He has also studied at the College of Staten Island and New York University. Larry and his wife Dorothy, a retired New York City public school principal, have three children - Lissa, Lori, and Larry, and one grandson, Jack.
SINY is funded by the Richmond County Savings Foundation and the Staten Island Foundation.
